Hanway Medical Practice is planning to merge with the Portsdown Group Practice on May 1st 2020 to ensure that you, our patients, can continue to receive high-quality medical care.
You may have read elsewhere that two of our GP partners are due to retire and another will be moving to another Practice in 2020 leaving just two Partners to look after our registered list of more than 14,000 patients.?
We have tried hard over the last two years to recruit replacement Partners, but, unfortunately this has not been successful, and we believe that merging our practice with another practice is the best option to ensure the continued high quality care for our patients.
Please note that our plans still need the approval of the NHS Portsmouth Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), which is responsible for planning primary care services across the city.
We expect the CCG to consider our application in March 2020. Their final decision will take account of our public consultation and assurances regarding risks and opportunities and, most importantly, the impact on patient care.
We thought long and hard about the way forward – and we know that this news won’t be welcomed by everyone. But we have written to the head of every household with patients at Hanway Road and Stubbington Avenue offering a full explanation for our reasoning and the benefits we think that merging with Portsdown will bring to you as our patients. We have also arranged 2 public meetings where you can come and find out about our proposals, and ask questions. These will be held on Wednesday 8th January 2020 at St Wilfred’s Church, George Street, Portsmouth PO1 5RT from 4 p.m. and on Friday 17th January 2020 at Buckland Community Centre, Malins Road, Portsmouth, PO2 7BT from 6.30 p.m.
An Equality Impact Assessment has been undertaken for this proposal a link to this document can be found below.
